Your Wilmington NC Chiropractor And Active Release Technique: Your Running Buddy For Peak Performance
For the past 3 weeks I have heldĀ a free Friday afternoon clinic in order to introduce highly specific soft tissue technique into my practice. This clinic was aimed at people with lower extremity issues that have been difficult for patients to resolve using traditional means, like injections, physical therapy and/or surgery. Most of these patients had some trouble with unresolved hip or foot pain, leg pain, clicking or popping in the knees ankles or feet or pinpoint pain that has gone undiagnosed for many months due to physical activities such as running or other sports.
I was pleasantly surprised that all of these patients noted significant improvements after their initial treatment and only a very small number of these people had need of a second treatment. This is interesting because until this point many of them had been told that there was nothing more that could be done and thatĀ they would have to live with the symptoms or discontinue the activity that causes aggravation of their symptoms.
The common issue surrounding many of the cases that I saw involved the various soft tissues surrounding the area of complaint. Using bio-mechanical analysis, I was able to locate problem areas along the kinetic chain (such as over rotation of the leg due to flat feet causing forward rotation of the pelvis) and determine which soft tissues were being repeatedly injured. Once I applied specific force to these areas I was able to lessen the damage to these areas and the patient noticed immediate improvement in their gait and most often immediate resolution of their symptoms.
The soft tissue technique itself that I utilized is known as Active Release Technique (A.R.T.), which is practiced by many types of providers including chiropractors, medical doctors, physical therapists and some certified athletic trainers. It is also used by most teams in almost every professional sport to help athletes recover quicker from injuries as well as increase performance and strength. You can find out more about this technique by visiting the Active Release website.
Since the events held at my office were so successful, you can look for further opportunities to attend these free clinics on the third Friday of every month. We will be focusing on the lower extremity (pelvis to the feet). If have specific issues that are currently going unresolved this is a great opportunity and I would be happy to have a look for myself. You may be amazed at the results, I know I have been.
